What's your story? Telling Tales Christmas Special

What's your story? Telling Tales Christmas Special

You’re invited to an alternative Christmas lunch with queer stories, organised by Liverpool Queer Collective.

Christmas is a time for families but family can mean a lot of different things for different people, particularly if you are LGBTQ+.

Liverpool Queer Collective is looking for local LGBTQ+ people to share their experiences of family with us at a Christmas lunch and storytelling event at 17 Love Lane on Saturday 15 December at 1pm.

The theme of the event is ‘We are family’.

They say that you can’t choose your family but often LGBTQ+ people have to turn to their chosen ‘alternative’ family after being rejected by those that they love the most. Others find that their family embrace them for who they are and celebrate their sexuality or real gender with them.

Many people have grown up with LGBTQ+ parents or are parents themselves who have come to terms with their own sexuality or gender.

Whatever your story may be we would love to hear from you.

We are looking for storytellers

Each story should be a maximum of ten minutes long on the theme of ‘We are family’. If you want to get involved, you’ll need to pitch your story in advance. Send us your submission in no more than 250 words.

This is conversational storytelling - you don’t have to have had any previous experience of public speaking or creative writing and we actively discourage people from reading their stories at the event. Deliver your story like you were speaking to your friends.

Stories will be chosen and curated by Liverpool Queer Collective based on relevance, diversity, representation and heart. If selected you will be asked come and tell your story at our event on the afternoon of Saturday 15 December at 17 Love Lane.

How to submit your story

Anyone aged 16 or over can apply – you don’t have to be LGBTQ+ but your story must relate in some way to LGBTQ+ culture, concerns and people and be based on the theme of ‘We are family'.

Please email your story in a 250 word max. synopsis to hello@liverpoolqueercollective.co.uk

Include your name, age, city, and contact phone number.

Tickets

You will need to buy a ticket for the event, which will include lunch and musical entertainment.

Tickets are £12 and include a three-course vegan Christmas dinner, made by Chef and Char.

A limited number of concessionary places are available at £9.

Closing date for stories: Monday 26 November 2018.

If your story has been successful we will inform you by Friday 16 November and you will be invited to speak at the event on the afternoon of Saturday 15 December 2018.

Tickets are available from the 17 Love Lane website.

With thanks to 17 Love Lane for hosting this event.
