Our Gaming Picks To Get You Through Self Isolation
While we’re on the ever uncertain rollercoaster of the COVID-19 pandemic, we’re told to stay home and take care of ourselves. But after 3 weeks, the boredom has well and truly set in.
We all need an escape from reality now and again and a chance to utilise our imagination for a few hours. Our resident gamer Mel shares her favourite multi platform/console games which offer a chance to switch off and simply let go.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons (Nintendo Switch)
A life simulation game that is played in real time where you play the role of a customised character of your choice as you build up your deserted island into a thriving community. The game is filled with lots of cute characters that you meet along the way who task you into doing chores and errands around the island. You can customise almost everything and link up with your friends too. You can easily find yourself losing hours of the day as it’s so addictive, but it is such a mind relaxing game you just simply don’t care!
The Sims 4 (PC/Mac/PS4)
Another top life simulation game that has been around for years! Now in its latest format and better than ever, Sims 4 is a brilliant way to play out life’s greatest stories and is super Queer friendly. From hugely customisable characters and complex family structures you really do take control of your Sims and their story. There are also multiple expansion packs allowing you to experience a load of other great content like celebrity lifestyles, going to uni, career making, pets and much more! Also as I write this blog the game is on sale at 50% its retail price so go and nab it while you can!
Lego Harry Potter Years 1-4 (PS4/Xbox One/Nintendo Switch)
Harry Potter AND Lego? What a brilliant combo to put into a game. Anyone who has played any of the other Lego games like Star Wars or Jurassic World will know these games are awesome. They mix creativity, puzzles and adventure together and it takes you right back to childhood. The graphics are brilliant and the Lego world they have created in this game has so much detail. The fact they have crammed four films into this game as well is brill and the Lego characters are very cute to look at (my fave being Snape).
Mario Kart Tour (iOS/Android)
An absolute Nintendo classic now on iOS and Android devices. Zoom around the many race tracks throughout the tour and compete against other online players to be the top racer in the tournament. Hugely addictive and competitive with an element of collecting thrown in for good measure too. You can collect characters, karts and badges as you go along. Phone-based gaming at its best!
Plants Vs Zombies (iOS/Android)
One of the best iOS/Android games out there in my opinion; I love a good tower defense game. Stages and stages of zombies trying to attack your home and you create your own plant army to defend it. It’s cute, fun and exciting at the same time as those zombies don’t half move fast! I’ve been known to scream, “Ah he’s broke through the sunflowers and heading straight for the house!”. Yes, you really buy into this game and it gets your adrenaline flowing. If you also like games where you collect, you can power up the different plants as you go along and there are other one off items you can buy with the sun beams collected that help you defeat those pesky zombies!
